• Si la violència està malament a Amèrica, la violència està malament a tot arreu. The house Negroes - they lived in the house with master, they dressed pretty good, they ate good 'cause they ate his food -- what he left. They lived in the attic or the basement, but still they lived near the master; and they loved their master more than the master loved himself. They would give their life to save the master's house quicker than the master would. The house Negro, if the master said, 'We got a good house here,' the house Negro would say, 'Yeah, we got a good house here.' Whenever the master said 'we,' he said 'we.' That's how you can tell a house Negro. If the master's house caught on fire, the house Negro would fight harder to put the blaze out than the master would. If the master got sick, the house Negro would say, 'What's the matter, boss, we sick?' We sick! He identified himself with his master more than his master identified with himself. And if you came to the house Negro and said, 'Let's run away, let's escape, let's separate,' the house Negro would look at you and say, 'Man, you crazy. What you mean, separate? Where is there a better house than this? Where can I wear better clothes than this? Where can I eat better food than this?' That was that house Negro. In those days he was called a 'house nigger.' And that's what we call him today, because we've still got some house niggers running around here."

• Hi ha dues classes d'esclaus. Hi havia el Negre de casa i el Negre de camp. Els Negres de casa - vivien en la casa amb el seu amo, es vestien força bé, menjaven bé perquè menjaven el seu menjar- que ell va deixar. Vivien a l'àtic o al garatge, però encara vivien prop de l'amo, i estimaven el seu amo més del que l'amo s'estimava a sí mateix. Podien donar la seva vida per salvar la casa de l'amo més depressa del que l'amo ho faria. El Negre de casa, si l'amo deia, 'Tenim una bona casa aquí' el Negre de casa diria 'Si, tenim una bona casa aquí'. En qualsevol moment que l'amo digués 'nosaltres' ell diria 'nosaltres'. Així és com pots explicar un Negre de casa. Si la casa de l'amo era incendiada, el Negro de casa lluitaria més fort per apagar el foc del que l'amo ho faria. Si l'amo es cansava, el Negro de casa deia 'Què passa, amo, ens hem cansat?' ENS HEM CANSAT! Ell s'identificava més amb el seu amo del que l'amo s'identificava amb ell mateix. I si anaves a un Negre de casa i li deies 'Escapem, escapem, separem-nos', el Negre de casa et miraria i diria 'Noi, estàs boig. Què vols dir, separar-te? És que hi ha una casa millor que aquesta? On puc portar millor roba que aquesta? On puc menjar millor menjar que aquest?' Aquest era el Negre de casa. En aquells moments li deien 'negre (despectivament) de casa'. I així és com li diem avui en dia, perquè encara tenim uns quants negres (despectivament) de casa corrent per aquí.
