Hamlet, príncep de Dinamarca, és una tragèdia escrita en vers per William Shakespeare a començaments del segle XVII.

Acte I

• «Claudi: I ara, el meu parent Hamlet, i també fill -
  Hamlet: Una mica més que parent i menys que amic.
  Claudi: Com pot ésser que els núvols encara s'aferrin a tu?
  Hamlet: No és pas això milord; estic massa a prop del Sol.»

  Hamlet: Una gran presó; plena de cel·les, galeries i masmorres, i Dinamarca és una de les pitjors.
  Rosencrantz: No hi estem d'acord, milord.
  Hamlet: Llavors és que per a vosaltres no ho és, perquè no hi ha res que sigui bo ni dolent, sinó que el pensament ens ho fa creure així: Per mi és una presó.
  Rosencrantz Doncs deu ser culpa de la vostra ambició. El món és massa estret per al vostre esperit.
  Hamlet: Déu meu! Podria estar empresonat dintre la closca d'una nou i sentir-me rei d'un espai infinit, si no fos perquè tinc mals somnis.»

  Rosencrantz: Then is the world one.
  Hamlet: A goodly one; in which there are many confines, wards and dungeons, Denmark being one o' the worst.
  Rosencrantz: We think not so, my lord.
  Hamlet: Why, then, 'tis none to you; for there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so: to me it is a prison.
  Rosencrantz: Why then, your ambition makes it one; 'tis too narrow for your mind.
  Hamlet: O God, I could be bounded in a nut shell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams.

  how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how
  express and admirable! in action how like an angel!
  in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the
  world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me,
  what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not
  me: no, ...

  Hamlet: God's bodykins, man, much better: use every man

  Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

• «Hamlet: Em considero mitjanament honrat;
  i tot i això em podria acusar de tantes coses
  que seria millor que la meva mare no m'hagués parit: sóc molt
  orgullós, venjatiu, ambiciós, amb més culpes a
  sobre que pensaments on posar-les,
  imaginació per donar-los forma, o temps per dur-les a terme.
  Què haurien de fer els individus que com jo, s'arrosseguen
  entre el cel i la terra?»
  (en anglès) Hamlet: I am myself indifferent honest;
  but yet I could accuse me of such things that it
  were better my mother had not borne me: I am very
  proud, revengeful, ambitious, with more offences at
  my beck than I have thoughts to put them in,
  imagination to give them shape, or time to act them
  in. What should such fellows as I do crawling
  between earth and heaven?
