(en anglès) If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.
(en anglès) Having power is not nearly as important as what you choose to do with it.
(en anglès) I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.
(en anglès) A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom. He has no master except his own soul, and that, I am sure, is why he does it.
(en anglès) So Matilda's strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.
(en anglès) You should never, never doubt something that no one is sure of.
(en anglès) I’m not a novelist, and, on the whole, the pure short-story writer is not a novelist. People like Katherine Mansfield. I don’t think she ever wrote a novel. You see, the short-story writer has got to get everything so tight, so close, and so concise. It’s the opposite of a novel. The novelist can spread himself or herself. They can take a page or two to describe the fucking landscape, can’t they? You can’t do that in a short story.
Entrevista publicada a ‘The Twilight Zone Magazine’, Febrer del 1983.
(en anglès) A writer of fiction lives in fear. Each new day demands new ideas and he can never be sure whether he is going to come up with them or not.
1984.
(en anglès) Sex is like nose picking. It's fine as long as you practice it yourself, but it's disgusting watching someone else doing it.

(en anglès) I understand what you're saying, and your comments are valuable, but I'm going to ignore your advice.

T'esperen sorpreses meravelloses![7]
(en anglès) I shake you warmly by the hand! Tremendous things are in store for you! Many wonderful surprises await you!
Capítol XII. El que posava a la papereta daurada. — Willy Wonka
(en anglès) There's enough chocolate in there to fill every bathtub in the entire country! And all the swimming pools as well! Isn't it terrific?
Capítol XV. La sala de xocolata. — Willy Wonka

(en anglès) A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

(en anglès) But what a turtle it was! It was a giant, a mammoth. I had not thought it possible for a turtle to be as enormous as this. How can I describe its size? Had it been the right way up, I think a tall man could have sat on its back without his feet touching the ground.
Eixut del tot, i assegut, còmode i confortable! Així que els hem seguit. És clar que els hem seguit.[8]
(en anglès) It's the gospel truth! There's this little boy riding high up on the old turtle's back and his feet isn't even touching the water! He's dry as a bone and sitting there comfy and easy as could be! So we go after them. Of course we go after them.
Primer capítol. El nen que parlava amb els animals

Les bruixes (1983)[modifica | modifica el codi]

Pàgina principal: Les bruixes
  • No importa qui ets o com et veus mentre algú t'estimi.[1]
(en anglès) It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like, so long as somebody loves you.
(en anglès) Real witches dress in ordinary clothes and look very much like ordinary women. They live in ordinary houses and they work in ordinary jobs.
(en anglès) It is most unlikely. But - here comes the big 'but' - not impossible.

(en anglès) It is not easy for somebody as small as that to score points against an all-powerful grown-up
(en anglès) Children are not so serious as grown-ups and they love to laugh.
La senyoreta Honey. — Matilda
  • No facis res a mitges, si t'ho vols treure del damunt. Exagera.
(en anglès) Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it's unbelievable.
Bruce Bogtrotter i el pastís. — Matilda
